LIFE'S A BITCH: Virtual love can't replace the real thing

HAVE you ever been in a long distance relationship?

As you can probably imagine - it's dreadful. After a night out, your single friends head off to an intimate after-party, your relationship friends go home to awaiting partners, and you go home to a lonely bed.

You know there's no-one to cuddle up with at home and still you're banned from getting any cuddles out on the town.

There might be a solution now though, in the form of the intimacy gadget Mutsugoto.

The gadget, under development at Distance Lab, will allow partners based miles apart to "touch" each other using a special ring and camera. A computer vision system can track the movement of the ring worn by one partner and project virtual pen strokes on the body of the other.

The company that are working on the gadget has announced that it will make communication between partners based at different locations more romantic.

Rather than using the phone or computer, which is also used for business purposes, Mutsugoto will be a strictly romantic communication tool.

Instead of the now so out-dated 'I love you'-text, you could proclaim your love by stroking your partner's body through Mutsugoto

Instead of going to bed with the phone squashed against you ear just to get a feeling of not going to bed alone, you could have your partner tickle you to sleep.

I am sure only the imagination will put a cap on Mutsugoto, but virtual love can never replace the real thing.
