Have your say

You will find animals from every corner of the globe at North Anston’s Tropical Butterfly House. Jane Grayson and Freddie, aged six, give us their guide

Having not been to the Butterfly House for two years, we thought it was time for another visit.

We picked a day which is unusual - it was sunny and warm which is a bonus.

We left the wellies and waterproofs in the car and set off around the farm.

Our first port of call was the exotic bird show. Ben and Justine the keepers did a great job. They put on a very informative show and everyone seemed to enjoy the display - a very good half an hour. The final performance is by the macaws who have been trained to come and take coins out of your hands.

All the kids and adults were wanting to have a turn as the birds took the coins for charity put them in a tin.

It was adorable and a clever way to get us to donate. Who could resist?

We decided to refuel so popped into the cafe. There is a very nice selection of simple food at reasonable prices.

The kids enjoyed the snack boxes very reasonably priced at £3.95. They left nothing so they must have been a success. After lunch we set off again visiting everything, using the map to keep us on the right trick and trying not to miss anything. It is set in such lovely woods you could wander around all day and still not see it all.

When we stepped inside the butterfly house the kids were so happy to see the butterflies flying round landing on us as well as all the other animals in there.

We went in there twice on the day - it was very calming although I am sure we didn’t see it all. After visiting all the different attractions, it was time for a sit down.

Kids never feel tired so off they went onto the new adventure play castle.

We didn’t see them for another hour - and took the chance to have a coffee and a piece of yummy cake from the cafe while relaxing in the sun. When it was time to go home, we were met with cries of ‘we have only just got here’.

We had been there nearly five hours but in the children’s eyes it wasn’t long enough. We will certainly be visiting again very soon - a brilliant day had by all.

Grayson tips:

Top tip:

Get there early so you can catch all the live shows. There are lots throughout the day so try not to miss them. The food was nice but there are lots of places to sit down and enjoy a picnic ... depending on the weather of course. One bug bear is the exit is through the gift shop!

DON’T FORGET:

Take spare clothes as there are quite a few displays that spray water - the kids were loving it but didn’t enjoy being wet after.

Overall:

A brilliant day out with something for all ages - 10/10.
