I ATTENDED the full council meeting at which the vote of no confidence was taken against Doncaster Mayor Martin Winter, but he still will not accept what the councillors told him: that they could not work with him and his overpowering attitude.
This was put to Mr Winter in a straightforward and firm manner.
I note from his recent Viewpoint article in The Star all the alleged good he has done, purely for the good of Doncaster (new schools building programme, Frenchgate Centre and Public
transport Interchange, the Keepmoat Stadium, the racecourse and its Exhibition and conference Centre, the new college and university centre).
All well and good, Mr Winter, but there is one common factor in all your alleged achievements, and that is they all involve development and developers.
One section of our community you have forgotten is the thousands of cancer suffers who live in and around Doncaster and who have to endure travelling to Sheffield to receive radium and chemotherapy treatment because of the lack of facilities in Doncaster.
So before Mr Winter leaves office for the final time, please visit the Jasmine Centre and the Chatsfield suite, both at DRI and see how these patients cope with their illness with dignity and resolve, and the dedicated nursing staff that look after them.
Then he may become aware that there is a lot more to life than just horse-racing and football.
