AS A child, I was compelled, by law, to study the state religion, Christianity; children are still compelled to be indoctrinated.
I learned about Abraham, Noah, Moses and the love of all humanity preached through Jesus.
As an adult, I learned the nasty parts, St Paul to the Corinthians, Yahweh and, above all, that nasty fascist, Leviticus. Religion itself put me off religion
, as I believe it has done the same for many people.
If God is as infallible as we are told, then surely it is not outside the realms of probability he would create something, homosexuals in particular, which is an abomination to him/her. My God would not give anyone the breaks not even afforded a crooked gambler.
Jesus, no matter which text you subscribe to, teaches forgiveness and understanding.
Where is this evident in the Anglican Church today as Bishop Gene Robertson is ostracised and even threats of schism are bandied about. Where is Christianity in all of this? Not within the established Church, I fear.
The Church is no longer relevant to most of the ordinary people, despite their protestations to the opposite. The meeting at Canterbury sounds more like the Nuremburg rally of the 1930s, full of fear and hatred, rather than a Church of love and forgiveness.
It is perhaps well past the time that the Church was disestablished and left to wallow in its mediaeval hypocrisy, and let the world progress to a more enlightened future.
