WE would like to thank the young people, Zoe, Mason, Paige and Ty, for finding the time to write the excellent letter, published on August 4 about the Five Weirs Walk.
As chair of the Five Weirs Walk Trust, I would like to apologise for the disappointment they and their grandparents experienced on their recent visit.
The problems that are the result of a sequence of events.
We had hoped that one year on from
the floods we would be able to re-open the whole walkway in time for the school holidays, but this has not been possible. We now hope that all the structural work will be completed in time for the 'Think Pink' sponsored walk on Sunday, October 5 when hundreds of folk will raise funds for the Western Park cancer campaign.
Our River Stewards will then be able to concentrate on clearing the vegetation and returning the walk way to its former glory
We do hope we can persuade Zoe, Mason, Paige and Ty to change their minds about 'not doing it again' and maybe they would like to become 'Friends of the Five Weirs Walk'. We are a charitable trust, run by volunteers, in our own time and welcome the support of people like you who are willing to express your concerns and make your views known.
If they send me their postal address I would be pleased to send a brochure, news letter and guidebook and let them know directly when the walkway is opened up again. Our web site is at www.fiveweirs.co.uk or email fiveweirs@btinternet.com
