So our poor little darling teachers want the cane back! Everyone say "Ahhh".
Tough!

Thirty-five years ago my daughter was a pupil at Meadowhead School and we were called to a PTA meeting packed with parents.

The head teacher announced that they wanted to abolish the cane and the strap. Every parent in the hall said, "
No." However, it was put to the national vote and passed.

The following year, we had another PTA meeting and the teachers told us, it was wrong for the pupils to "call us Mr, Mrs or Miss" and they want pupils to "call us by our christian names." Again the parents voted "No, no." But it was passed at the Teachers' national vote.

We told the teachers this would lead to no respect for the teachers and we have been proved right!

I wish every pupil would give each teachers a damned good hiding, it may knock some sense into them. Pupils need discipline and teachers need respect and coming down to a pupil's level is not the way to go about it.

Has anyone noticed our prisons are full? Come out of the Court of Human Rights. We need hanging back for people who murder, cat-o'- nine-tails for the ones who hurt anyone and the cane for the under 18s.

Prison should be what it used to be in the early part of the 20th century: no comforts and loss of liberty!

Now, before anyone writes and tells me what a vile man I am, let me say this: I am a churchgoer, I help the sick and I am a member of many groups that help people. I only want to see the wrongdoers punished.

I have written what many people are thinking. Will it happen? I think not. We have too many do-gooders!

RK, an 80 -year-old, (Name and address supplied)

You are so right RK, an 80 -year-old, (Name and address supplied)

There are far to many do-gooders and they are ruining this country

It’s about time England woke up to these people and say enough is enough

And I am a Christian but not a church goer, for me the churches have paedophiles and per*erts in their ranks with more faith in other faiths than Christianity

England needs another crusade for we have over 7 million follower of Saladin living amongst us

Cane in schools, NO. Not now it would never work. I do remember the abuse we suffered in school with sadistic teachers. There are more ways to punish children now. But control has been taken from the parent. I was more afraid of my teacher sending a letter to my parents than the cane. But many parents no longer care what happens. Others that would punish their kids are afraid to do so. It is far too easy to be accused of child abuse now. This is a monster we have created because we have allowed ourselves to be controlled. Now we find it hard to solve our own problems, The slightest problem and most people go running to a solicitor. Doctors, Teachers, even the Police are becoming targets of political correction gone mad.

The letter was somewhat extreme but there is a problem & that is there is no deterent & little respect for others in our society. How to balance the rights of the individual & others is the problem! I feel it has swung too much towards the individual but as Cherie Blair is a "human rights" lawyer, you would expect that!
