MAY I congratulate Firvale School on their exam achievements.
I attended Earl Marshal for a happy 6 years, gaining 11 O levels and 4 A levels , while I was there, may I add. I went on a achieve an Honours degree and a good job.
So did my husband, who also attended the same school.
Unfortunately it is stil
l a case of a post code lottery. I feel sorry for those at the endangered schools, as there is still no alternative, unless you can afford to move to the more affluent catchment areas.
Those who reside in the less desirable areas of the city have no choice, nothing has changed since the Seventies .
It all depends on where you live. The Government uses the threat of closure/targets as a big stick to continue beating staff in hard schools, who try their best, but this is never good enough. New initiatives will not change things.
Time for much more fundemental change in education policy: move the teachers from the more afffluent schools to those in trouble.
Let them see real life.
