I TAKE exception to the letter by R Szumski (June 20) regarding the hire of Don Valley Stadium by Rotherham United for the next four years.
SIV are there to run the venue and to try to make it pay its way. The stadium was built to host the disastrous World Student Games and, I believe, was financed not only by Sheffield, but also Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham council tax payers.

I am not going to knock Sheffield United, Wednesday or the Eagles, but all have had their problems throughout the years, but Sheffield United, through Neil Warnock, bent over backwards to help my club Rotherham United when they were in serious trouble.

In four years' time, Rotherham will have their own stadium and, should any of our local clubs find themselves in trouble, Rotherham United would be the first to help through club level and supporters.

Alan Charlesworth, Spa Lane, Sheffield, S13

Sheffield Wednesday also supported Rotherham Football club by raising a large amount of money through bucket collections which I know was greatly appreciated by Rotherham F.C.
