RE: Letters page, September 29, "Bruises were not result of abuse."
I had bruises on my skin as a youngster (not painful) diagnosed as purpura - bleeding under the skin, possibly due to having haemophilia.

For the latter, I spent several spells in the old Royal Hospital, Sheffield (under a Dr Shinner) and in bed
at home. From this, I got up and went to take (and pass at School Certificate level - not matriculation) what was then one of the 11-plus examinations, some 80 years ago!

I wasn't allowed to take part in sporting activities - any knock possibly having serious consequences.

While in hospital I noticed a lad younger than me having an egg for his supper, subsequently finding that it was part of the diet for his diabetes.

It would seem, therefore, there can be different reasons for abnormalities of the body.
