ST LUKE'S: Don't abuse the trust of a generous man

Having read about Mr Graves and his gifts to Sheffield it is obvious that he was a very generous man.
All he asked in return for his gifts was a promise that the land would never be built upon and would be kept as public parkland forever.

My grandad played there and I hope that one day I will be able to play there with my own grandchildren.

This will not be possible if we sell or give bits of it away.

I do not doubt that St Lukes is a good cause, but that is no excuse for breaching the trust the Graves put in us.

His type do not come along too often and we owe it to him to maintain his wishes and his legacy.

We will never again find such generosity particularly if we are seen to abuse the trust and promises made when such gifts are made

William N Stuart, Greystones Road
