COUN Bramall's letter regarding free positive activities for all eight to 13-year-olds (July 15) was misleading and smacked of sour grapes.
He is right to point out that Labour first brought this policy to council in February. Along with other Liberal Democrat colleagues, I voted in favour of it. As such we included the commitment in our manifesto as something we would do if local people
put us in power. Therefore I make no apologies for fulfilling this manifesto pledge.

Free activities for all eight to 13-year-olds is a policy that has enjoyed cross-party support. So it's sad that Coun Bramall wants to try to score party political points.

I'm proud to announce that this summer will see the biggest-ever programme of activities for young people. Instead of sniping from the sidelines, Coun Bramall and the other Labour councillors should get on board and help to promote these activities.

Coun Andrew Sangar, Liberal Democrat Cabinet member for Children's Services and Lifelong Learning
