Martin Oxley (August 14) wrote that Georgia has to take the bitter pill of defeat at the hands of Russia because it supported George W Bush in Iraq. The logic of this is that if Russia decided to bomb Britain because Tony Blair also supported the invasion of Iraq, we would deserve to be punished in the same way.
Sheffield Stop the War Coalition is continuing to campaign against all these wars, whoever starts them for whatever reason, because the innocent who had nothing to do with the policies of their leaders are the ones who suffer death, maiming and destruction.
We shall be lobbying Gordon Brown's political rally in Manchester on September 20 to tell him to bring our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan for a start and to refuse to send any troops or missile or anti-missile sites to countries that want to follow war policies, including Georgia.
The urgent need now is to build coalitions of the peaceful majorities who want to tackle the real problems – poverty, crime, food and fuel scarcity and global warming – and not spend millions on wars.
