Protest against waste plant bid

A handful of residents in Brightside, Sheffield, have been issued with a letter informing them of a proposed Biffa waste disposal plant and lorry park next to residential housing, schools and a nursing home.
Rumour has it that this plant will be housing initially 90,000 tons of waste, including food waste, with plans to increase this to 200,000 tons.

The risk assessment has identified that residents within the vicinity will be at high risk of odour, dust and fibre which makes this a serious public health matter.

Residents are disgusted that little notification has been given, leaving them only 10 days to inform other local residents and log their objections.

This is being achieved, hopefully, via leaflets, collecting signatures on a petition, contacting local councillors and MP David Blunkett and informing local schools and businesses.
