IT'S dawning on many Labour MPs that, come the next General Election, they will become ex-MPs, short of a nice little earner, plus all the perks and lots and lots of holidays.
I don't suppose that could be the reason for a growing desire for a leadership change, after all, the vast majority of these MPs have supported the disastrous policies of the two 'Bs' (that's Blair and Brown, of course) over the last 10 years.
If
there is a leadership contest, there's no point in picking a cabinet member: as such, they've all contributed substantially to the mess.
Both Blair and Brown and a good number of Labour MPs' loyalty to typical Tory policies, the CBI and the warmonger across the Atlantic is highly commendable. Their loyalty to those who voted for them is non-existent, making New Labour unelectable.
The Tories are, of course, waiting to become the next Government, another pending disaster. It may be that after the Labour conference Brown will seriously consider the next election.
I understand he's a praying man, he might try praying for a miracle?
But he might be better praying for mercy. Then again, how much mercy is he going to get from the umpteen tens of thousands on whom he's imposed a lower standard of living, by imposing a below inflation increase in wages.
After that conference he could ship out some of the more right-wing members of his Cabinet and look round for some new faces.
At this point, having said a prayer, he could sing a hymn and hope for guidance, inspiration and wisdom. Might I suggest the following would be entirely suitable for the solemn occasion: "Bringing in the sheep, Bringing in the sheep." There's certainly lots to choose from.
