With regard to the letter sent by Mrs. Macreath, Loxley (Aug 20), I would like to take this opportunity to respond.
The Moor Beach was commissioned by the Moor's managing agent and not the council. It is the second year this highly successful week-long free event has been held to encourage the public to visit and show them that while the Moor is changing, it is st
ill very much alive.
Each day had a theme to ensure that visitors could expect something different each day as well as the standard entertainment of sand, bingo, deckchairs, face-painting, make and take workshops, singing, character meet and greets, DJ, compere and competitions.
The sand was purpose-bought beach sand from a specialist supplier and is not suitable for building anything other than sand sculptures. It was inspected and turned daily and any which fell outside the sand pit was responsibly disposed of. Setting the sand pit in the bandstand meant that when it rained play did not have to be interrupted.
Prize bingo is just one component of the event which people looked forward to. The fact that all the deckchairs were occupied at the time that Mrs Macreath visited shows that.
As the event organiser, I carefully vet all my team and include childcare professionals, H&S officers, first-aiders and trained face painters, none of whom would say to a member of the public, 'No love, tha's missed it'.
The Punch and Judy, magic shows, surf simulator, rodeo bull and car rally were fully embraced by customers and retailers alike and the Beach is the event they most look forward to repeating.
