I READ with interest Transport Minister Rosie Winterton's comments (March 18) about the case for reopening the Woodhead tunnels for rail use. She clearly does not believe in public transport or the people who use it and in most cases have to depend on it.
The roads are getting worse and the number of lorries is increasing – and they are getting bigger. Driving is a real battle to get to and from work.

What do you think? Post your comments below.

I would like to see Rosie Winterton's lifestyle; I bet she has a ministerial car, a plush office and a driver thrown in with her job at the taxpayer's expense. What the people want is a better public transport system, a growing railway system, reopening the Woodhead route.

I agree with the MP Angela Smith: it would boost the local economy and further secure our transport links from north to south both for passenger and freight and that is what we all want to see.
Mr RW
