I have become increasingly annoyed and frustrated at the negative publicity and on-going attempts by the Lib Dems to overturn the decision to merge Myers Grove and Wisewood Schools.
Contrary to professional opinion and the views of the vast majority of parents whose children will benefit from the creation of a new modern school, the Lib Dems continue to pursue futile objectives to secure the finances required to refurbish and ma
intain two 'obsolete' schools.

Furthermore, Coun Sangar repeatedly states that the Lib Dems were elected in the Hillsborough Ward solely on the merger issue, a view that clearly cannot be substantiated. The last budget and national events leading up to the local elections were the main reasons for many voters to protest against the Government.

It is time for the Lib Dems to end this saga and support the creation of a new and modern educational establishment.
Concerned Grandparent

I am perplexed by claims of Lib-Dem councillors in the Hillsborough/Wisewood area as representing the views of residents. As a Wisewood resident and parent of two children who will be affected by the creation of a new school that will provide first rate education for generations, I assure you that they do not represent my views. Nor those of the majority of parents and children affected by this. Nor those of all the education professionals who support the building of a new school. Nor do they represent the outcome of the judicial review which upheld that the original consultation was completed fairly.

What they do represent is the view of a few marginal voters who managed to get one Lib Dem, Steve Ayris, elected in this ward (who has not responded to any of my emails or phone calls on the subject). How can he represent my views, one of his constituents, if he won't actually listen?

I am sure the Lib-Dems are playing a silly political game in which they realise that the best solution is for the new school but, having bought the votes of a few, are attempting to shift the decision onto the Labour Government. They now say they intend to put pressure on the proposing group to change their minds. Let us remember that the proposing group has done everything right and is made up of people whose views they purport to be representing.

This silly political game is, jeopardising my children's education and that of generations of Sheffield 6 children to come. Grow up Lib Dems!
Joe Smeeton, Avondale Rd, Sheffield 6

HAVING been a Wisewood pupil all through my school years in the 60's I suppose I do have a bias as to keeping it as it is and have always regarded the school as the heart of Wisewood. Even when I was given the choice to go to Myers Grove or remain at Wisewood I chose to remain. Besides Myers Grove was miles away and I would have to travel every day by bus.

As the crow flies, Wisewood to Myers Grove is only a few hundred metres across the River Loxley, in Studfield Road area, so why not consider an access road or footpath over the river from Loxley Road.

Mr d clapham,

Wisewood 18/07/2008 15:11:29
The whole point of the merger was for falling rolls!!
But its now come to light there is none!!

The proposing group and badly informed by who -the labour party thats who!!

Its not hard to add both schools pupils up is it?

Wisewood is full and turning pupil numbers away! the new school will be built for only 1050 pupils!!

Where are the other pupils going to go in its own catchment area??????
After 9months of the proposing group set up , A contact email has been set up , and the reply is always the same to ANY questions "we have to speak to our legal team"

SOCS have been fighting this merger from day 1, dont forget the labour party admit they lost 3 labour councillors seats because no one wanted the merger!!!!

The lib dems are fighting for communities, SOCS are still fighting this merger and will keep doing so! The judicial review is to come yet!!!
How many teachers jobs will go?
how many staff jobs will go? do the proposing group care at all or are they towing the labour party line!!!!
