BACK in December 2004 local train operator Northern introduced a fast and frequent one hour service between Sheffield and Leeds, calling at Meadowhall, Barnsley and Wakefield.
Over in Doncaster, they have boasted fast regular services to Leeds for decades.
Currently the average journey time from Sheffield to Leeds via Rotherham Central is one hour 16 minutes!
To help ease chronic overcrowding and improve train se
rvices between Sheffield, Rotherham and Leeds, another new fast and frequent service could be introduced between Sheffield and Leeds, calling only at Rotherham and Wakefield. This new service could leave Sheffield and be routed via Woodburn Junction (avoiding Meadowhall) thus allowing a fast 10 minute non-stop journey to Rotherham. Surely this new service would benefit Rotherham passengers and help out with the ever increasing overcrowding on the local South Yorkshire rail network.?
