IT is extremely sad that Sheffield airport is closing. A city the size of Sheffield not having an airport is a joke.
As for Nick Smillie's comments that Sheffield's hilly geography prevents a longer runway, is he seriously saying that Sheffield out of all the cities in the world is too hilly to have an airport?

He also states that Sheffielders should see Robin Hood as their own. With a clear run I can get to East Midlands airport just as fast if not quicker and invariably flight-wise there is more choice and they are cheaper.

Do the people who make decisions in relation to these major issues regarding Sheffield realise that the average Sheffielder sees them as a laughing stock.

The sad thing is that these idiots invariably cost me and people like me money

Years ago when EMA was just in its infancy our Council was invited to join in with its development.

Quite right, you guessed, our forward looking Council ( guided by its Officers) turned them down.

As Alderman Sterland was reported as saying, "Sheffield people dont want one[an airport]". That was said on 9 April 1970 and his ghost is still lingering along the corridors of Surrey Street.
