It's no big deal to be breathalysed

IN The Star of July 30, a letter appeared which told of a vicious attack which left the nephew of the writer on an intensive care unit fighting for his life.
I have great sympathy for the victim and his family and hope that there is a full recovery for him and that the perpetrators are jailed.

It is sad, however, that his uncle has used this attack as an excuse for whinging over the breathalysing of hi
s wife after driving home from a golf club dance.

As far as I'm aware you're just as dead if stabbed by an assailant or run down by a drunk driver, and the police have to try and combat both.

Late one night a few years ago I pulled over to let a police car with flashing lights overtake me only to find out that they were pulling up behind me. I was subsequently invited into the back of their vehicle where I was given a breath test. Once it was confirmed as below the limit, they let me out (I hadn't even realised I was locked in) and they and I went our separate ways.

During this time I didn't get angry or excited, and neither did they.

They were polite and just doing their job. Breathalysed. Big deal.

Rodgers,

SHEFFIELD 29/08/2008 18:12:24
had you been younger, The Police would have provoked you into swearing or making another gesture, They would have fined you for that. Maybe worse. I feel more safe today walking past a group of yobs than being pulled by the Police, And, I am not a criminal. I live in North Sheffield where it is a case of them and us with the Police. This is of their own making. NO I am not a young yob. I am a 62 years old disabled ex serviceman. Wondering what is happening to the best Police Force we used to have.
