IT has been said that a campaign had been launched to turn off bus engines!
I would love to know where I should complain to... and when! Nothing seems to have changed. Is this another empty political gesture from the Green Party?

I have been campaigning for a year. I have no political power, but I do represent the local community and the bus companies don't seem to be very bothered about that.

I use the public transport system nearly every day, I use it for work, for visiting family in Sheffield and further afield.
I've seen the signs too, in several bus stations and on smaller shelters but the point is this...none of the buses I've used actually do it.

None of them turn off their engines, even if it's a good long wait before we set off. If you want to make a difference anywhere in the city or even make yourself heard then you have to shout long and hard.

Could someone make it clear to us exactly how they're going to enforce this policy when I've been on the buses in the bus stations with the fragrant scent of diesel filling my lungs? If there is a policy to 'shut off when still' why don't they do it? Or is it another 'no one else does it so why should I?' thing? Credit crunch or recession think about how you use the fuel you have.

Come on Greens! Get yourselves fighting for what you believe in, we voted you in now get on with it!

For the attention of the above two and others.
This is NOT a green initiative. I wrote an email about 3 months ago about this to ALL the leaders of the city council parties - namely Labour, Lib Dems and Green party PLUS the tory lot who had 20,000 votes at the locals AND the First mainline guy who is called Brandon Jones.
NO, the bus companies seem to have done very little at all SO FAR, to stem this fuel wasteage and what annoys me is that they are regularly putting up fares for useage regardless of our complaints, at least three times in just over 12 months according to the Sheffield Green Party.
The quote in the Star on September 19th from Brandon Jones of first mainline was effectively saying that the public should name and shame the drivers!
However,if anyone DOES want to do this particular reporting in, you cannot actually find the number for the Olive Grove control or Stagecoach control people...so you would have to ring up traveline or the number in Rotherham during the day.
The Greens have, in fact campaigned long and hard to re-regulate the buses....look at their local website to check the factual EVIDENCE of this.
The parties who have been wielding "so called power", namely, New Labour and Lib Dems have been dragging their feet on this meanwhile, so, factually, your aims of accusation at the Greens are, once again, baseless.
If you DO want things to change, then don't just grumble on here, write to the Bus companies, to the Councillors and the papers too.

Actually I couldn't care less about the environment but I catch the 20 bus each day and 9 times out of 10 they turn off their engines. Though I must say its not always a sensible idea because sometimes the buses don't restart and those of us that have jobs to go to rather than sit around all day crying about the environment end up being late or rush round to find another bus
