AFTER reading about the homework club Sher-e-Bangla on Abbeydale Road for children for whom English is not their first language, I would like to know if there is one for British children, as at the moment my daughter is struggling at school and we are paying £20 per week for one-to-one tuition.
Apparently, the Sher-e-Bangla offers free one-to-one tuition, as it is heavily funded by South Yorkshire Community Foundation, which is part-funded by the Government.

Surely it is things like this which are only accessible to certain groups of the
community that fuel the ill-feelings now growing in this once-tolerant country.

Yes. There are plenty of homework clubs available for all children. I would be very surprised if there wasn't one at your daughter's school.

It's disappointing that you wrote the letter before asking, as such letters only invite the sort of bitter, twisted and ill-informed comment that waywoodwind regularly posts.

PS The correct spelling is wayward wind.

I am sorry you think like that Janet Green, but to call a school or place of learning Sher-e-Bangla that is not pronounced in English, is for foreigners only

All children should be classed the same and they should not be a political porn, perhaps like your political party allows

For my myself I have my own political views and why shouldn’t any Sheffield taxpayer have them when they have actually help build Sheffield from the blitz

I want to see Sheffield grow and prosper while your friends want to destroy her

My log-on name is waywoodwind 1, and certainly not wayward wind as you insist.

So if you can help this child struggling to learn then post these classes on here, for there must be many more mothers in the same predicament.

I don't think any school homework clubs operate a 1to 1 tuition system as they do not have the funds available. I work in mainstream school and know of a lot of parents who pay for 1to1 tuition as their children do not learn properly in a mixed ability class of 30. I think the point this reader was making is that if it was a free 1to1 tuition group set up just for British children something would be said.

I am not a member of any political party and your suggestion that 'my friends' want to destroy Sheffield is just ludicrous. What fantasy world do you live in, waywood wind 1?

No, children shouldn't be political pawns (not 'porn'). So stop using children's education as a vehicle for promoting your obvious prejudices.

I'm interested in trying to help every child to reach its full potential.

I don't know of any homework clubs (school or otherwise) that offer 1to1 tuition. However, I do go into my son's school twice a week to do some 1to1 reading and writing support with a couple of children (white British, if you want to know).

My son is in a very mixed-ability class of 30 and I'm very pleased with the way that the teaching staff have organised to provide each child with learning opportunities and support matched to their abilities and achievements. If you're not happy that that is being done in your school, then get involved and insist that it is.

Sorry about the spelling mistake Janet Green (pawn not porn) but I had just been reading a very interesting blog about politicians been arrested for pornography and other disgusting crimes

http://liarsbuggersandthieves.blogspot.com/

I don’t believe I live in a life of fantasy but do dream about the world I am leaving to my future generations

For I actually worked on the Sheffield hospitals, roads, schools and homes, and after building them 40 years ago, I see them all in a terrible state for lack of maintenance.

The argument is should all children be treated the same, because this councils gives special learning to foreign children from one particular race and not our own indigenous ones.

Perhaps if you live on the Lowedges you will know my wife and daughters who also gives an hour or two to help with 1 to 1 learning, but that’s not the same as professional teaching.

Who needs one-one teaching when we have Janet Turner to patronise people and correct their spelling and grammar on this forum?
Just log the kids on to this site and read her pearls of wisdom.
