I READ with much interest that Sheffield TUC believe that fare evasion on the rail network is a small problem.
People who avoid paying their fare are often people who seek to harm the rail network through anti social behaviour or other means that cause disruption to travelling commuters.

Some commuters on certain long distance jouneys can pay over £2,000 per year on discounted rail travel and so to watch young thugs walking on a train without paying is a slap in the face.

East Midlands Trains wants to claw back the money that it is losing by walking all over the law-abiding majority.

I appreciate the issues the TUC have raised regarding the footbridge at Sheffield station but to imply that fare evasion is a small problem is insulting those who witness it every day, and the officials who are tasked with trying to put a stop to it.
