Diversions made our walk a nightmare

OUR grandparents decided to take us on a day out last week. We were planning on walking the Five Weirs Walk, but unfortunately we were disappointed with our results.
Where the walk was supposed to begin, builders were placing new paving stones on the floor. This meant we couldn't get by this way.

However, one of the builders kindly told us there was a diversion, though we would have to walk around the building at the side of the walk and carry on the road until we found another entrance.

This was inconvenient because as well as having four young children to keep an eye on, there were no signs showing the diversion route and we only just managed to find another opening to it, which wasn't marked and was hidden away.

After walking for around 15 minutes, we had to cross a road and continue the walk on the opposite side. This wasn't accurate however because this opening was closed off with barriers. We were appalled.

This made the walk even bigger than expected as we had to walk on the edge of a main road which obviously is dangerous, especially with young children.

We finally managed to reach the next opening for the walk.

We were all puzzled that the entrance to the other opening towards Meadowhall where, we wanted to go through, was closed off. But the entrance on the side we were on now, which was leading to the same place, wasn't.

This would cause inconvenience for others walking away from Meadowhall back towards town across the Five Weirs Walk as they'd get to the end and then realise that it's closed off and have to walk all that way back.

Once again, after the walk had finished on this side we had to cross over. This time there was a gate to go through to continue the walk, but unfortunately it was closed and padlocked so no-one could enter. This time there was a notice on the gate telling the reason why we couldn't enter and where the diversion was. This wasn't very helpful.

We finally got onto the walk on Stevenson Walk. This was badly maintained as the footpath had plants and nettles blocking it, making it difficult to get through and overgrown bushes which blocked the sunlight and poked us in the head.

On reaching the Arena, all the children were too tired to continue because of the walk they had just done.

What was supposed to be a fantastic day out and an 8km walk turned into an enormous disappointment. We definitely will not be doing it again.
