REGARDING the letter from JH Sheffield (July 9) "Council bin men not doing jobs."
I am 85-years-old and when I was a girl we lived in a terrace house which was up a passage. At the bottom of the garden stood the dust bin.

The bin man walked up the passage, up the garden carrying a large pan.

He emptied the dust bin into the pan, lifted the pan onto his shoulder and walked down the garden, down the passage, up the street and emptied the pan from his shoulder onto the muck cart. The bin men were a tough breed in the 1930s.

Rodgers,

SHEFFIELD 17/07/2008 22:02:18
I am fortunate. I am one of those that knew how to apply for the bin men to move my bin down my steps when they call to empty it. But I cannot in all honesty say that I have no complaints. The last time I complained about Veolia I received threats for doing so. Maybe when they read this I will get the same. It is time we threw the French out and gave this contract to a British Company. The we will see a better service. At the moment they rely upon young underpaid agency workers, Hired Vans from another city. Still they are not organised. Come on Sheffield Council, Why are they till emptying our bins. Any other contractor would have lost the contract by now there have been far too many complaints.

If you have a response to my critisism then this is the place. You can even do it the cowards way. Name and address Supplied, Or use a false name, But let us have your views, If I am wrong then I will apologise, But we all know I am not. Time for a change I think.
