"My feeling is that it is an absolute disgrace that a city like ours has not got an airport and the way it has been handled is nothing short of farcical.
"We should all demand an enquiry into the way it was sold for £1 and good for Andrew Cook in starting a court injunction. He has my full support and if I can help, I will, and hope more people will do the same."
Chris Lingard, aged 58, Hillsborough."I think its a shame that we have to lose Sheffield airport. In the begining, there was so much hype about the airprt, lots of businesses came to be near the airport and the roads were restructured to make it easier for people to approach the airport and all the businesses.
"That area was made into a clean presentable business enclave for the people of Sheffield and Rotherham to open up to Europe and the wider world.
"But then, somehow, everything started going wrong with it - too small runway, not viable, not economic, etc.
"I believe Sheffield and Rotherham Councils should have backed up the airport more, done more business through it and made sure it was self-sufficient in the longer term.
"It's no good calling Doncaster airport Sheffield airport, because its nothing to do with Sheffield, it's in Doncaster - we will have no gains out of that airport.
"We should have done more publicity for Sheffield, like we are doing it for Doncaster now. I feel really sorry that Sheffield airport will be no more, its a sad day for the people of Sheffield and Rotherham, we lost a good asset, and the people of Doncaster have now got the Crown Jewel!"
Zeb Khaliq, aged 48, Rotherham."The story is almost unbelievable and council officers in Rotherham have said they don't believe it. The arguments of Mr Smillie are the exact opposite of what was said when it was proposed.
"Short runway STOL airports near to city centres were all the rage, based on London's Docklands City Airport with shuttle fights to other major node airports and to other urban centres.
"Handing over the airport to these operators is outrageous, as they can now make a bomb out of using the site for redevelopment.
"This is inevitable if the same company runs Finningley - Robin Hood. You would have thought Sheffield Council could have done something, which is what the people from Rotherham said."
Richard Roper, aged 58, Gleadless. "After all the money, time and effort that were spent building Sheffield Airport, it's inconceivable that the owners, Peel, supported by our city leaders, have now closed it.
"I agree with the many people who wrote to The Star expressing their concerns."
