Is renaming Cutlers Gate as Derek Dooley Way a fitting tribute to the late Sheffield football legend?
"Having known Derek for over 20 years, I can only confirm what a remarkable and delightful man he was. However, I am not happy with the suggestions that he ought to have a street named after him.
"The Parkway already has a name and the route from
Bramall Lane to Hillsborough doesn't make sense. It would be more fitting and relevant to his proud memory to name a sporting venue after him. Or a green space where children play."
Barry Cummings, aged 65, Broomhall. "I think the best idea is for Sheffield to have two statues of Derek Dooley back-to-back. One of him in his younger days facing Hillsborough and one of the older Derek facing Bramall Lane, set on a floodlit plinth in the Peace Gardens to avoid damage from vandals.
"This, I think, would keep both sets of fans across the city happy. There could be a collection at both home matches and from the business community to cover the costs. All it needs is someone in authority to sanction this idea.
"But if we are going to name a road after Derek I think only the small section called Cutlers Gate from the Parkway to the Wicker, which is part of the inner ring road, is nowhere near enough a fitting tribute to such a great man.
"It should be the Sheffield Parkway or Upper Hanover Street, which is one of the main links Bramall Lane and Hillsborough football grounds.
"Come on Sheffield Council, stop dragging your feet and do something with gusto for once. You are full of big ideas but then back down and we have to make do with whatever you offer us. Give Derek Dooley the fitting tribute he deserves!"
Kevan Smith, aged 51, Manor. "I don't think the council's tribute is good enough. They should re-name a road around the West Bar area, to signify the direction Derek took from SWFC to SUFC, and that would be close to both grounds."
Chris Lingard, aged 58, Hillsborough. "It needs to be a bigger road. Bramall Lane and Hillsborough would be more suitable."
Pete and Helen Dutton, Lower Bradway. "To name a road after Mr Dooley is a very fitting tribute (not being a football fan myself) but it should be the area between Bramall Lane and Hillsborough, the two major parts of his life."
Mollie Hickman, aged 65, Handsworth. "It's all very well naming streets after famous people but I really think that there are more important issues for Sheffield City Council to spend their time discussing."
Peter Charles, aged 50, Hillsborough. READ MOREYour letters.
