STEELERS are quietly confident they have built the side that can land them the Elite League championship next season.
But they also confess that there was 'one that got away'" during their close-season recruiting campaign.
That man was Cardiff's Brad Voth - the player Sheffield fans love to hate.
Sheffield tried to sign the giant winger even though in the past he has severely injured the likes of Ashley Tait, Jeff Legue and Stefan Sjogren.
They recognise Voth is that rare breed that is not always available in the modest surrounds of British hockey ... a tough guy who can score points as well as fight.
Voth scored 29 + 17 in 58 games last season, while also leading the Devils' penalty-minute-takers.
Sheffield official Dave Simms admitted: "We tried to get Voth earlier in the summer, but so did Coventry Blaze, Belfast Giants and Nottingham Panthers. Gerad Adams (Cardiff coach) had to pay a shed-load to keep him.
Simms said Steve Munn may end up having to fight more this season.
"Steve may have to get more involved in that side," he said.
"Overall, the important thing is that we have a side that can look after itself and win championships."
