NEWCASTLE Vipers' Coach Rob Wilson had hoped to snatch Ryan Finnerty from Steelers - but is crestfallen now the player has re-signed at the House of Steel.
"He is just the player we like here, he would have fitted in well; I would have jumped at the chance to sign him"I didn't see the guy have a night off, every time we played Sheffield he was in our faces all night.

"Sheffield didn't have a tough team but he played tough, he was something different in their line up. In Jeff Legue, Joey Talbot, Ashley Tait and Doug Sheppard they had a lot of similarity, but in Finnerty they had Tim Cranston-type guy.

"There would have been a long line to try and sign Finnerty and I would have been at the front.

"To win a championship you need a guy like him, I think Dave Matsos has been smart in ensuring his troops are led by the likes of Jonathan Phillips and Finnerty. His first two signings of the summer are perhaps not the flashy guys but the guys you need in the trenches."
