STEELERS have been investigating whether they can help out EPL cousins Sheffield Scimitars.
The lower league side is about to lose its main benefactor, chairman Martin Birch and has been casting around for new partners or owners.

In Thursday's Star, ex-coach Neil Abel spoke of rumours that Steelers or Sheffield International Venues (spor
t, leisure and entertainment company) may take over.

Today Steelers' General Manager Mike O'Connor admitted the club had made some preliminary inquiries about a formal link up. But it appears nothing is imminent.

What do you think? Post your comment below.

O'Connor told The Star: "We want Scimitars to thrive and succeed.

"But obviously we cannot get involved in anything that is a major drain on resources. At the moment, we're looking into things."

The prospect of Steelers being joined by Scimitars at a new rink at the Yes! Project development which is planned for Rother Valley seems an attractive option for both clubs.

But that is three years down the line - and Scimitars will need investment and assistance sooner rather than later.

n League champs Coventry believe they've made the signing of the summer in ex-Phoenix Coyotes first-round draft pick Scott Kelman from the Dayton Bombers of the East Coast Hockey League.
