DOUG Sheppard solved phase one of Sheffield Steelers' goaltending challenge today.
With second-string Davey Lawrence leaving the Arena, Sheppard persuaded ex-Basingstoke Bison team-mate Dan Green to join the Play-offs champions.
Now the club will look to solving the thornier question of whether first-choice custodian Jody Lehman will stay or leave.
Green, a 25-year-old who has played three seasons with Bison, was recommended to coach Dave Matsos by Sheppard, his assistant coach.
Matsos said: "Dan is an ideal replacement for Davey, he is experienced in the league and has shown he can play when given the chance. Doug coached him in Basingstoke and couldn't have given him a better reference."
The ex-Bracknell goalie commented: "This is a big opportunity for me. Steelers are a huge club and I can't wait to become a part them.
"Doug Sheppard called me and we talked about the move, I was excited and just wanted the deal to get done.
"It's a tough job for a Brit being a back-up goalie. We know our chances are limited but I have always worked hard, waited for my chance and then have done my best. Dave Matsos has told me that he is the kind of coach who rewards hard work, so I know if I get my head down and do well, I will get my chance."
