SHEFFIELD Scimitars emerged from a difficult road weekend with three points out of four, beating Bracknell Bees 1-0 away yesterday after losing 3-2 at Guildford Flames after overtime and a shoot-out on Saturday.
At Bracknell last night, they stuck to the game plan and an early goal by the third line gave them the lift they needed.
It was tipped in by Lloyd Gibson off a Robert Farmer shot towards goal.
The pace was fast and end to end in the first peri
od, with much better passing, face-off wins and power plays for the Scimitars than recently.
Although the intensity dropped a little in the second period there was plenty of hard skating and good defending. Penalty killing was solid from the goalie outwards to maintain the slender lead to the end of the second period.
Both teams pressed hard in the third, but neither could get past the respective netminders and play became feisty as Bracknell got frustrated.
As they were pushing for an equaliser Slamiar was given a high sticks penalty with 2.38 mins to go, but the Bees picked up a penalty for the last two minutes and Scimitars held on.
Paul Jones was Scimitars MOM after a strong team effort.
At Guildford, Scimitars claimed a point, going to overtime and a penalty shoot-out.
Guildford came off the blocks hard and it took Sheffield time to settle. A penalty for high sticks by the Flames after 20 seconds gave the Scimitars an early opportunity to take a lead.
Guildford did not allow them to set up shots on goal, though Mark Lee was called into action instead.
Rapid end to end play saw the Flames creating more opportunities, forcing Mark Lee to make some good saves .
Guildford took the lead at 15.42 from a pass by Foremsky to Liddiard, who made it 1-0.Scimitars matched the Flames more evenly, both netminders keeping clean sheets.
Wallace scored for Scimitars, followed by Barron, but the home side scored their second to go into overtime. Guildford won 3-2 on penalties.
On Sunday Scimitars face Swindon Wildcats at home.
