WARREN Tait, released after three years by Steelers, could still be playing his ice hockey in Sheffield next season.
The brother of Steelers' marksman Ashley is having talks with English Premier League team Sheffield Scimitars.
Coach Ron Shudra told The Star: "We'd like him on our team and we're discussing matters with him at the moment.
"We'll have to see how it goes. Warren works hard and skates hard and can do things others cannot, so it would be good to have him."
Shudra said it depended on the import acquisitions whether Tait, 27, would be a first line player.
Scimitars are hoping 1995 New York Rangers draft pick Peter Slamiar will return after returning home to Slovakia in the summer. He scored 27+29 in 38 games for Scims last season.
"Peter is a dynamic forward who is of Elite League standard; we're keen on him returning" said Shudra.
Canadian Shudra will himself play on defence again, and is looking for another import forward.
The club are allowed four imports in all, but are studying their financial position before addressing the issue of whether to fill the last slot with an overseas player.
Scimitars may reward Paul Jones for last year's form with the first-choice netminding responsibility.
Generally, Scims will again lean heavily on home grown talent to chase league winners Guildford Flames and Play Off champions Slough Jets.
