STEELERS tonight wacked five past Hull Stingrays to take maximum points from their latest Elite League encounter with their Yorkshire cousins.
They took charge early on - leading 3-0 at the first interval.
While Hull fought back on home ice, they just didn't have enough power or pace to influence the scoreboard, eventually going down 5-2.
Hull had gone into tonight's match having picked u
p just one regular time match win and one in overtime - four points from 16.
It is fair to say Steelers, too, would not have settled for their early season form either, three wins and three defeats.
Coach Dave Matsos had made it clear in training that the concession of "silly goals" had to stop.
Hull's team-talk probably consisted of the importance of resisting yet another defeat to Sheffield.
Stingrays have not beaten the Steelers at home since December 2006 when they won by the odd goal in five.
The last six games has seen the Steelers take the points home and have scored 27 goals and conceded only 7 goals in the process.
And they took charge as early as the eight minute when Jason Hewitt struck. Doug Sheppard made it two and skipper Jonathan Phillips three, with the second assist of the night for Ryan Finnerty.
In the middle session Jason Kostadine grabbed one back but that was nullified by Ashley Tait's goal at 35;31.
The win was sealed by Robert Dowd just inside the third session and a Lee Esders consolation for Hull failed to mask the visitors' domination.
*Tomorrow Steelers host bottom club Basingsoke Bison at the Arena.
In 20 games between the two at the Arena Steelers have won 18. But old boy Jeremy Cornish will be hoping to reverse that trend.
