Steelers hopes of doing well in the Challenge Cup lost ground at Belfast tonight.
Sheffield were outgunned 5-2 at Giants' rink and have to pick themselves up tomorrow for the home league game against Nottingham Panthers.
Tyler Howells and Andrew Martin put Giants 2-0 up in nine minutes and although Jonathan Phillips got one back, Belfast's Paul Deniset and
Bobby Robins put the home side totally in charge.
While Nathan Gillies got his first goal of the season, Deniset concluded the scoring on 38 mins.
Nottingham Panthers moved to the top of the Elite League with a
7-4 win at Hull.
Dan Tessier was the star for the Panthers with two goals but the
Stingrays put up a good fight.
The Panthers led 3-0 after goals from Tessier, Jade Galbraith and Johan
Molin but Rick Kozak and Jeff Glowa replied.
Corey Neilson hit another for the Panthers but Kozak kept the Stingrays
in it before Tessier hit his second.
Matt Reynolds grabbed another for Hull but Bruce Richardson and Molin
finished them off.
Bottom side Basingstoke Bison lost their 11th game of the season as they
went down 5-2 at home to Newcastle Vipers, Marek Ivan and Derek Campbell
scoring two apiece.
Coventry Blaze enjoyed the night's biggest win with an 11-1 success at
Edinburgh.
