RYAN FINNERTY'S loyalty to Sheffield Steelers looks like rebounding on him - even though he'd take a pay cut to return.
The fiery forward was approached by rival club Nottingham Panthers about a place on their roster after the end of last season.

He decided against pursuing their interest in the hope Steelers would bring him back.

However there has been no conta
ct and the club are clearly looking elsewhere - leaving Finnerty with a job to find.

Recently General Manager Mike O'Connor told The Star that Finnerty had been seeking "to re-negotiate his salary and his wife's educational needs."

But the 28-year-old Canadian told The Star: "I haven't even spoken to Matty about next year, let alone a pay raise

"It doesn't look good and I am just negotiating with teams in North America right now" said Finnerty, a goalscorer in Sheffield's victorious Play-off final. "We would like to come back to Sheffield, if they can work it out. I'd even take a big pay cut to make it happen, but it doesn't look good.

"Nottingham had offered something after the season and my wife, Heather, and I said 'no'.

"I thought Sheffield would come up with something."

Finnerty is in no rush to wear the shirt on any other team in the Elite League.

"I won't play for another team in the UK, actually thought Sheffield was going to try to work it out for me" said the ex-South Carolina Stingrays winger.

"It would have been easy to take Nottingham offer, but we decided to give Sheffield some time to sort it out."
