SHEFFIELD Steelers have given Jody Lehman until Wednesday to agree a new contract - or they will actively seek a replacement.
The club has offered Lehman the same pay-deal as he had last year.
No contract has yet been signed - and, privately, there appears to be a sticking point.
Lehman told The Star recently he was not pursuing a pay rise at the club.
Yet there is clearly some hitch, as Steelers GM Mike O'Connor has given him a short deadline to agree what he described as "identical terms."
O'Connor said: "I have spoken with Jody on a few occasions and we would like him to return, we have offered him a contract and the terms to be good - they are the same as last season, which is all I have to offer.
"We hope to have a decision from him shortly. If we don't agree by Wednesday we will have to go out into the market place."
O'Connor added that Lehman was a "popular member of this team both in the dressing room and in the stands, he is a competitor and a winner."
But it is clear that Christian Bronsard still fancies a return to Sheffield Arena and is waiting in the wings.
