GERAD Adams, Cardiff Devils head coach, claims Sheffield Steelers are "just not tough enough" and too small.
Sheffield have signed British fighter Andrew Sharp, but Adams doesn't believe that will be enough.
He feels Sharp's skating isn't up to scratch for Elite League level.
"Sheffield have been defending their roster throughout the off-season," said Adams. "They've said they can cope with the increased physical aspect despite having the smallest team.
"The late signing of Sharp proves they are concerned.
"Sharp had better be ready because he'll be going up against guys that are extremely tough. If he has to fight night after night, he is going to get hurt. The League has more tough guys this year and I'm confident we have the right balance. We have guys like Brad Voth who can make big hits as well as fight and score, which is crucial.
"I don't think bringing in a guy just to fight who can hardly skate is the answer. Sharp has been brought in to try and prevent Sheffield's smaller players from being physically dominated. They seem to have shown a lack of confidence in their team right before the start of the new season."
