MEMBERS of the public used fire extinguishers given to them by paramedics to put out a motorcycle that went up in flames after a collision with a car in Sheffield.
The motorcyclist was taken to the Northern General Hospital suffering from multiple fractures after the crash on Greenland Road, Darnall, at 4.30pm yesterday. An Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were first on the scene and when we arrived the
bike was on fire.

"We have extinguishers on the ambulances so they were given to members of the public to douse the flames while the ambulance crew dealt with the patient."

Firefighters arrived soon afterwards. The biker had back and arm injuries.

n A blaze at a wood recycling centre at New Orchard Lane, Thurcroft, was started deliberately, say experts.
