ON the ice they're as tough as they come.
But the hearts of Sheffield Steelers' players were well and truly melted when they met poorly youngsters at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

The ice hockey stars spread some seasonal cheer when they took a break from training and dropped in for a Christmas visit.

Players including Jeremy Cornish, Joey Lehman, Ian Manzano and Mark Thomas toured the wards and visited young patients who were having treatment for illnesses and accidents.

Among the lucky patients were Jessica Brown, aged seven, from Dore, and Jack Brayford, 16, from Thurgoland.

The team signed autographs and wrote on a plaster cast belonging to patient Matt Bradley,12, from Whirlow.

And they also took time to share a chat with parents and staff who were delighted to meet the sporting visitors.
