A POLICE sniffer dog was taken to pubs in the Sharrow Vale area of Sheffield to look for punters carrying drugs.
The operation on Friday night concentrated on Sharrow Vale Road, Ecclesall Road and Psalter Lane.

Two cautions were issued after the dog found two people with small amounts of cannabis.

Inspector Craig Patchett, of the Sharrow and South West Sh
effield Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "We want to send a message to people that we will take whatever action is needed to stop the supply and use of drugs on the streets and in public places."

The police conduct this operation once a year, always in the Ecclesall Road area, and always 'net' one or two punters carrying small, personal amounts of cannabis. What an absolute waste of time. This seems to me like the police are looking for a couple of easy scores to count towards performance targets. We never hear of them conducting these operations in the city centre, or Burngreave/ Gleadless/ areas which might net them a more substantial haul.

The problem is they made it legal to smoke it. Were ever you go now you can smell it. This should not be smoked in the streets / town centres / or outside pubs.
A fine should be given to anyone doing so and the drug confiscated and destroyed.

bladesboywoodhouse - Cannabis is not legal. It is a Class B drug and if you are found to have it with you then you can be dealt with.

I find that the drug isn't smoked in the streets, town centres or other places. If you see someone smoking it then may I suggest you ring 0114 2 202020 and report it.

As for why the police don't conduct operations in areas such as Burngreave or Gleadless...has anyone asked the police to do these operations? Have they sought to question why they haven't done any in the past?

Berg, I can tell you now for 100% There are drugs smoked and snorted all over the city and villages round Sheffield . In the City people smoke drugs in Fargate / Peace Gardens/ Outside pubs / Beer Gardens / Toilets / even in court, They have Blue light in toilets for white powder substances were it has been done. I many times work in these courts and see lots going on You might not see this were you are but I see it nearly every day. I have reported this and not much has been done due to the police either turning a blind eye or too tied up in other matters.Children as young as 11 years old are doing drugs and alcohol due to bad parenting / Policeing
