A SHEFFIELD church has been transformed thanks to a £350,000 makeover.
St Timothy's Church on Slinn Street in Crookes has been undergoing a major refurbishment since last September, working to update and create modern facilities without losing the building's features.
The first step in the revamp was to remove the 100-year-old pews from the church, which were sold on to people in the community as a souvenir to raise more money for the project.
New crêche facilities, a kitchen, disabled access and toilets have all been introduced, as well as new meeting rooms for prayer and pastoral work and a revamped entrance lobby. Hi-tech audio-visual equipment has also been installed.
It took the parish three years and a lot of hard work to raise the money – but church-goer Andrew Chapman said it had all been worth while.
He said: "The transformation has been very successful in harmonising the classical features of the church with the new decor and facilities.
"The outcome of the whole building project has been a real answer to prayer, dedication and hard work by so many people, and very generous financial support from the members of the church and others who have made this possible."
