A SEX shop in Sheffield city centre is applying for permission to put up a window display featuring erotic outfits for sale.
Private Shop, on Division Street, will have its application heard at Sheffield Council's Licensing Board today.

Its parent company Darker Enterprises Ltd is the holder of the shop licence. Under regulations any window displays at sex shops have to be specifically licensed by the local authority.

No recommendation has been made to the board, apart from that it "consider the request and any representations made".

It isn't necessary to have a window display that some people might find offensive, it may also send out the wrong message to children.

From the description in the article I cannot see this display being any worse than we see in the windows of Pulse and Cocktails and only marginally worse than the displays presented by many of the highstreet clothing retailers.

As long as they are not displaying graphic pornographic images I do not see that there should be an issue.

I agree with Michael above.
This display will probably be lively and tasteful. Much better than what is there now. And far less offensive than the top shelf of a newsagents.
Funny that Urien talks about "offensive to children". This is a studenty area full of bars and student flats, I don't recall ever seeing a child there.
