Rider dies in bike smash

A MOTORCYCLIST died after he lost control and hit a concrete fence post while overtaking a car on a main road in Barnsley yesterday morning.
The unnamed man, from Wombwell, crashed on the A6195 Park Spring Road, in Grimethorpe, at 6.45am, a mile from the junction with Engine Lane as he was travelling towards the Dearne Valley Parkway.

A police spokesman said the rider, who was on an
orange and black Honda VTR1000 Firestorm, was pronounced dead at the scene from suffered multiple injuries. His body was taken by ambulance to Barnsley Hospital.

Police were informed by a witness who called 999. The road was closed while scenes of crime officers investigated, it reopened at 10am.

A spokesman said there had been no arrests and the man's identity would be released after his family had been informed.Call the Witness Helpline on 0114 2202970.
