SHEFFIELD'S legendary Leadmill nightclub is appealing for up and coming artists to make their mark by giving the club's smoking shelter a makeover.
The shelter was opened last summer to coincide with the government's smoking ban.

Now staff want to give smokers something nice to look at - replacing the current brick walls.

Ian Delaney, programming manager said: "The current smoking area is
not very colourful or even very nice to look at, and we wanted to rectify this.

"We thought we could just paint it, and then came up with the idea of opening this up as a competition prize to the people of Sheffield.''

The design must be music related, feature the iconic Leadmill sign, and include the NHS Stop Smoking Service number 0800 068 4490.

The five best designs will be chosen by staff and posted on the club's website. A public vote will determine the winner.

Entries to Niki Davis, The Leadmill, 6 Leadmill Road, Sheffield, S1 4SS, or by e-mail to niki@leadmill.co.uk by Monday 30 June.

I agree that the Leadmill USED to be a legendary venue, unfortunately is has been eclipsed by better venues for the last decade after it decided to concentrate more on club nights.
A far better sound can be heard at the Plug and the Carling Academy now when a live band is playing, and that is a real pity as the Leadmill was one of the very best in the 1980s and early 1990s
