INMATES in Doncaster Prison are being forced to sleep in toilets because the jail is so full, an inspection has found.
The Prison Officers Association claims an unannounced visit by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons found single cells were often being shared by two inmates and in some cases beds had been placed in the toilet areas to get three in.

The union
, which represents prison officers and staff, said the inspection had "raised some serious ares of concern".

It claims the inspection found a deterioration in healthcare provision and an increase in violence and the number of prisoners self harming while behind bars.

Colin Moses, National Chairman of the POA, said the Minstry of Justice needed to look at the findings of the report into the privately-run prison.

"The use of private prisons is simply wrong. Clearly, profit is being put before prisoner welfare, staff, prisoner and public safety alike and the practice of trebling in a cell for one is disgraceful," he said.

"The Ministry of Justice must take a serious look at this report and consider whether private prisons are fit for purpose.

"Prisons should not be run for profit, but for the public good. New Labour should abandon its plans for further privatisation."

Brian Caton, the POA's General Secretary, said: "The deterioration in the provision of healthcare and suicide prevention policies is disgraceful.

"This union has and will continue to campaign for the removal of the private sector from our prisons.

"Public prisons should be operated by public servants and the Government should be ashamed that the private sector can drive down the cost of public sector workers without any thought to decency."

No-one from Doncaster Prison was available for comment.

SO WHAT !!! If there's three in a cell. It's about time the kid gloves came off in this country. Put six in there and shower them with freezing water to boot. When the word get's around it's hell in prison it may act as a deterrent.
STOP PUSSYFOOTING ABOUT WITH THIS MOB.

My heart bleeds for 'em. Should I actually be concerned? Cos I'm not. Break the law- suffer the consequences whatever they are, it's that simple. Prisons shouldn't be like a blasted holiday camp.

I HAVE NEVER HEARD SO MUCH RUBBISH. POOR PRISONERS. THEY GET BETTER TREATMENT THAN PENSIONERS IN A CARE HOME. SQEEZE OUT THOSE HANDERCHEIFS AND GIVE A LITTLE THOUGHT TO THE VICTIM. PRISONS ARE NOT FULL AT ALL. IT IS A FACT THAT MANY CELLS SUITABLE FOR FOUR PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO SINGLE CELLS WITH ALL THE TRAPPINGS OF A LUXURY BEDSIT. THESE PRISONERS IN DONCASTER HAVE NEVER SEEN A REAL PRISON. IT IS HIGHT IME THAT THEY DID. GET THEM INTO THE POKY LITTLE ( PADS) THAT ARE IN LEEDS ( ARMLEY JAIL ) OR MANCHESTER. THERE WAS A TIME WHEN PRISON WAS PRISON. NOW THEY ARE NO DETERRENT. TOUGH. IF THESE SCUM BAGS WANT TO SLEEP IN A TOILET THEN THAT IS THEIR CONCERN. OLDER JAILS HAD A BUCKET IN A CELL WITH A PLASTIC MUG AND A SMALL STOOL AND TABLE. THESE SCUM BAGS TODAY EVEN HAVE CONTRACTORS TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEM. COME ON. PRISONS SHOULD NOT GET PUBLICITY, NOR SYMPSTHY. NO-ONE FORCES THESE CRIMINALS TO GO TO PRISON THEY GO BY CHOICE.

Perhaps the British People should be told that there is over 72% foreigners in our prisons

The crime and punishment of this country is in a total mess, for the biggest culprits and criminals are in the government.

We have our soldiers living in worse conditions. Those prisoners could sleep out in the cold for all I'd care. What difference does their nationality make? Let the time fit the crime!!
