BEING Boiled and Empire State Human co-writer Martyn Ware has been revealing more about his split from The Human League.
He says it was a management decision to create two bands for the price of one.
Martyn and Ian Craig Marsh, another founding member of both bands, then drafted in Glenn Gregory, to form Heaven 17, while Don't You Want Me star Phil Oakey recruited girl backing singers Joanne Catherall and Susan Sulley.

Heaven awaits for electro-pop fans as Glenn and Martyn perform for the first time live their debut album, Penthouse and Pavement - VIDEOMartyn, of his departure from Human League, explained: "It's a long story, but fundamentally the record company and Bob Last, who was managing us at the time, were determined to get two bands for the price of one.
"So they manufactured a situation, I have to say with a little bit of duplicity in the background – a little bit of lying and whispers in people's ears They manufactured a situation where it became 'untenable' for us to be in the same band together.
"What they got out of it was two highly successful bands. So from a Machiavellian point of view it worked – a complete success."
And, despite Human League album Dare being a bigger commercial success than Penthouse and Pavement, Martyn says he never regarded his departure as a mistake.
"No, not at all. Good God no. We were in direct competition. We were recording in the same studio down in West Bar, an old vet's place – it was horrible. We were doing night shifts and the Human League were doing day shifts in the same studio. They were making Dare and we were making Penthouse and Pavement.
Glenn added: "They came out of the same mucky old vet's, in West Bar. We went there, wrote and recorded it on an eight track, which was in reality a seven track, because one was broken.
"I was upset to hear the Human League had split. I had tickets to see them in Doncaster and thought they wouldn't be playing. But actually they did, because Phil went out and got the girls straight away and they did that gig."
