THIS bloke is as fit as a fiddle - and he's set to be a film star.
Introducing 80-year-old Sydney Wilson who is to become THE face of fitness after being selected to star in a series of short films to inspire people to get in shape.

Sydney, from Dunedin Grove, Halfway, Sheffield, was chosen by Cravendale Dairies as an entrant in its Gran Slam competition after the former roofer was nominated by his grandchildren Jessie and Joey Walker.

They told judges that despite his age their granddad still does competitive cycling and time trials and in the last few years has won several veterans road races.

Jessie, aged 14, and Joey, 12, added: "When granddad takes us out on our bikes he tires us out."

And this old cyclist has no intention of giving up his bicycle clips for a while to come.

"I've been a cyclist all my life and a member of Sheffield Phoenix bike club for 60 years," said Sydney, who used to ride as a semi-pro.

"It's been my life really and I can't get enough of it.

"In the summer I'll set off for the Peak District and generally ride around 150 miles a week in training.

"Then every Sunday I'll be somewhere riding in a 50 mile road race.

"If my film helps inspire others to get a bit fitter then that will be great. You've got to keep fit otherwise you'll soon be in the grave." And what does his wife Sybil think of her fella spending so much time in the saddle.

Sydney added: "She's a cyclist too, and rides just as often as I do - even at the age of 75.

"In fact it was on a bike ride that we first met and we've been married now for 54 years."
