DEF Leppard bassist Rick Savage enjoyed a sneak preview of a new £500,000 art gallery in Sheffield.
The Sheffield rock star visited Sheffield artist Peter Hill's new gallery on Ecclesall Road and is to carry out the official opening at a VIP party tonight.

Rick said: "I think the paintings are great and very much in the vein of stuff I've already got hanging at my house."

The new gallery is the culmination of a remarkable journey for Dore artist Peter, a graduate of Psalter Lane art school who turned his back on painting to get a job in finance to pay his mortgage.

The former finance worker did not paint for 15 years - until the day he forgot to bring a raffle prize along to a business seminar.

Peter said: "I had to think on my feet and offered the winner that I'd do them a painting as a prize. My banking colleagues were amazed, they'd no idea I'd got an artistic side."

He has gone on to become one of the most successful artists of his kind in the UK.
