THIS is the young man killed in a drive-by shooting in Sheffield - the latest victim of gang warfare on the city's streets.
James Kamara, aged 22, was blasted to death on Brunswick Street, Broomhall, as he chatted to three life-long friends.
The other men - including cousins Jamaine Anderson, 23 and Tyrone Ricketts, 20 - survived bullet wounds.
The pair have been released from hospital after treatment but a 21-year-old man who suffered more serious injuries remains in the Northern General Hospital, in a stable condition.
One neighbour told The Star James planned to leave Sheffield this week to begin a new life in Manchester.
She said she had heard he was only in Broomhall to say goodbye to the pals he had grown up with.
"It is sad that all he wanted to do was say goodbye, I bet he never dreamed it would be permanently," she said.
The drive-by shooting happened outside the terraced home Jamaine shares with his grandmother Mavis Anderson. The frightened 78-year-old - also grandmother to Tyrone - was inside her house when the shots were fired.
She told The Star she heard the gunshots and saw James slumped on the ground as residents and then paramedics battled in vain to revive him.
One of her grandsons was shot in his foot and the other was shot in his hand.
Mrs Anderson, a widow, told The Star: "I was upstairs watching the news when I heard an everlasting blast - a continuous line of shots, like a machine gun.
"I knew my grandsons were outside because I had asked them to move on earlier - they would always hang about outside with their friends and I was always asking them to find somewhere else to sit.
"I was too frightened to go outside but I could see everything happening, young James on the ground with people trying to save him.
"He used to live here and go to school here until his family moved away, but he still kept in touch with all his friends.
"I don't know what this is about, I just don't know, but James had all his life in front of him.
"People talk of gangs but I don't know anything about that - these are my grandchildren and I am just glad they are okay."
She revealed Jamaine was in deep shock after the gun attack.
She said: "He was really upset, in shock that one of his friends had died like that. To think that he and my other grandson could have died frightens me."
Cherry Liu, 16, from Felixstowe, who was visiting friends on the street at the time of the shooting, said: "I heard a gun going off about eight times.
"When we looked outside we could see people trying to resuscitate a man lying in the street. It was horrible.
"I saw another man with blood all over his body.
"The whole street was taped off the next day so I didn't leave the house at all, I was too scared."
Police said the attackers are believed to have fled from the scene in a silver Vauxhall Vectra, registration plate FJ52 GWP, and travelled through the Broomhall estate on Collegiate Crescent, Park Lane and Clarkehouse Road.
The car was later found abandoned and partially burnt out behind the Belle Vue public house, off Whitehouse Lane, Walkley, at 8.25pm on Wednesday.
Police are also keen to speak with anyone who witnessed a disturbance in Eldon Street, Devonshire Green, behind the Forum bar, which occurred at approximately 5pm - 90 minutes before the shooting.
Det Supt Peter McGuinness, leading the murder inquiry, said the incident is believed to be linked to the shooting but that it is not certain exactly who was involved.
Mr McGuinness added that investigations at the murder scene have revealed the weapon used is likely to have been a 9 mm semi-automatic firearm. It has not yet been found.
The officer said police have received significant information from the public but urged anyone else to come forward.
